Lethbridge Zombie Walk 2012

Saturday, October 13th, 2012

Lethbridge’s most recent zombie walk was yet again a huge success! This year the weather was gorgeous so there were more summer themed zombies, and as usual the makeup and costumes were so impressive! It’s great that so many adults and children can get together and have such a great time while shuffling along and eating brains :) I love when spectators pull their cars over to watch and participate when all the zombies attack them! Coulee Carnage: Hammer Out MS | Warhammer Tournament

Monday, July 2nd, 2012

I have a feeling most of the people reading this blog don’t know what Warhammer is, and honestly, I don’t know much about it myself ;) (basically it’s a tabletop fantasy strategy war game, but Wikipedia does a better job describing it). The important thing, though, is that some guys here in Lethbridge got together and organized a weekend Warhammer tournament in efforts to raise money for MS. They had a killer turnout, and all together they raised $5000 for the MS Society! They got some great media coverage for the event, Coulee Carnage, and are going to run it again next year. I’m sure they will easily top that amount on the next one. Great works, guys! (more…)

Great Lake Swimmers | Southminster United Church, Lethbridge

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

I haven’t had a lot of time for seeing bands lately, but when I heard about a concert happening at this venue I just had to go. I’ve also fallen into a rut of only going out to see bands I already know, but I hadn’t heard much of either Cold Specks or the Great Lake Swimmers before, and thought an early evening spring concert in an old church was the best environment for some musical experimentation!

The show was put on by Geomatic Attic and hosted in the Southminster United Church, which had such beautiful acoustics. Both bands gave powerful but mellow performances, though I felt Cold Specks stole the show. Though soft-spoken while making small talk, her voice filled the church when she sang. She performed her last song without guitar and without a microphone and it resonated throughout the entire space. Goosebumps! (more…)

For once it didn’t rain, and the Lethbridge Annual MS Walk was a huge success! This was my first year involved as the official photographer and I had a great time. The participants raised a ton of money for MS research, the volunteers did an amazing job organizing the event, and everyone had a lot of fun. I’m so glad I got to take part!

Valerie & Jonathan’s Coaldale Wedding Reception

Sunday, April 1st, 2012

Valerie and Jonathan, who you might remember from their engagement session last autumn, had an intimate wedding in Cuba this winter and then returned for an evening reception with their local friends and family. Cam and I came along to capture the spirit of the event and take some family photos, since most of their family had been unable to attend the wedding itself.

They held their wedding reception in the Coaldale Community Hall, which is just so delightfully white and crisp looking – a gorgeous contrast to their purple wedding colors. Everyone was a lot of fun and let me kidnap them for most of the time for photos :) (more…)

Matthew Good | Live in Lethbridge, The Stone

Saturday, November 19th, 2011

It’s been a few years since Matthew Good played in Lethbridge, so it was a treat to finally have him back. I’m a little biased in my opinion of the show because he’s been my favorite musician for half my life, but I’m sure there were a few other people who agreed with me seeing as how it was sold out ;)

I was able to catch one of his shows at Jack Singer Hall in Calgary the week before and was excited to be able to photograph his bar gig here in Lethbridge after seeing that. Luckily the gorgeous light show they had set up translated pretty well to the smaller stage. The performance was amazing (one of his best I’ve seen), and we all cheered when he chastised a few guys who started a fight. Definitely one of my top shows of the year! (more…)
