Nightmare [Lens Factor Project: Horror theme]

Lens Factor Project, horror theme, Lethbridge nightmare horror forest photos

It should come as no surprise that horror was the theme I was most excited for! Darcie was magically transformed by Katt Panic into a sleep-deprived, tortured soul haunted by her nightmares. I swear, she is beautiful and has colorful healthy skin in real life! Katt went so far as to make the teeth and hands grimey. I also model in this as the dead hands that keep attacking the girl and got the grungy makeup treatment myself.

I loved the look and spent so much time photographing Darcie on this creepy set after we finished the main concept image. She was amazing to work with but hopefully the next time she models for me, we can make her look a little nicer ;)

Evening Fashion Photos [Lens Factor Project: Fashion theme]

Lens Factor Project, fashion theme, Lethbridge evening fashion shoot

I’m glad I was indecisive and went with two very different looks for Eva’s photos, because my second choice of concept with the playground equipment ended up being my favorite! We started out with my first idea of dramatic contrasting colors in the woods and playing with the motion of fabric, then headed to the playground where Eva got an intense workout doing gymnastic poses for me. She’s such a champ that she climbed up there with her heels on!

Boy/Girl [Lens Factor Project: Romance theme]

Lens Factor Project, romance theme, composite photo of model being girl and boy

Even though we were allowed to use multiple models in a theme (as long as the main model was featured), I accepted the challenge of only using the names I drew. I loved playing around with both multiple exposures and gender bending when I did photography in university so it was fun to pull both themes back out again.

Jenn did an amazing job transforming Amanda into both characters and Amanda rocked being both a girl and a boy!

Model: Amanda Roth
Hair/Makeup: Jenn Burton
Theme: Romance

Because of how complicated this was to get just right, I didn’t have any out-takes from this theme but made sure to get a few head shots of Jenn’s amazing transformations on Amanda.

Billy’s Balloon [Lens Factor Project: Landscape theme] – Part II

Billy's balloon, the murderous balloon

Wanting to make the best use of the balloons I picked up for the landscape theme, I finished off Sarah’s photos with a few inspired by the Don Hertzfedt cartoon “Billy’s Balloon.” Sarah and her family share much of the strange sense of humor as me so she was totally up for it and really let those balloons mistreat her. It was hard for her to look scared because we were laughing so hard!

Warning: violent cartoon ahead! ;)

Balloon Landscape Portraits [Lens Factor Project: Landscape theme] – Part I

Lens Factor Project, landscape theme, Lethbridge summer balloon portraits

For the theme of landscape it was impossible not to immediately think of Lethbridge’s rolling coulees! I love our huge open skies so I made Sarah fly a little (with the help of a bunch of balloons and Photoshop, of course). At the time of the photos, the canola fields were breath-taking so it was really hard narrowing down my final image between the two locations.

The Girls in the Masks [Rachel and Pandy]

girls wearing masks in Lethbridge barn

I’m so glad for this impromptu photoshoot with models Rachel Kieper and Pandy Duplessis at the October photographer/model collaboration. I wanted to photograph each girl, and their outfits and masks came together perfectly as I started picking out their wardrobe. They did an amazing job being both eerie and beautiful in the old abandoned barn location.
