Rush Dance Montage 09, Lethbridge

Last week GS Lakie middle school and LA Dance company put on a fantastic dance show, Rush Dance Montage, with all of their students at the Yates Memorial Centre. Music students of the school opened the show with each of their rock bands while the crowd filled the auditorium (I wish my school had had a rock program!), and this was a first performance for many of them but they did so great! They were followed by an hour of super impressive dancing, with dancers ranging in age from teeny tiny (3 or 4) to adults. The show had such diversity, covering hip hop, lyrical, Latin, Afro-Caribbean, contemporary, Irish, etc etc. My favorites were the Bollywood piece (naturally) and the Michael Jackson tribute. There are a ton of talented dancers in this city! I really wish the show had been much longer than an hour! Kristi did such a fantastic job putting this together :)

Desert Winds Bellydancers

As part two of my Dragon Boat Festival photos, I bring to you the Desert Winds Bellydancers! This is a different troupe than I am in (I’m with Ammena), so I don’t always have a chance to see them perform. They debuted this circus routine at our big dance show in March, so I was only able to watch it from the side stage. It was so fantastic to sit in the audience for once and soak it all in!

Cynthia also dances with our group, so I’ve had a chance to try this sword thing. It balances quite well, but it is painfully heavy! Cynthia is so talented with it!

This is my favorite skit in the circus act…

An Explosion of World Dance and Music

The poster for this year’s Explosion of World Dance and Music, hosted by Ammena Dance Company, is done! If you haven’t been to this show the last two years, the focus is on belly dancing but there is an eclectic mix of many different dance styles, and even a few musical acts.

Tickets for the show go on sale tomorrow! If you are interested in going, buy your ticket early because they sell out quickly.

I’m going to be dancing on one of those drums shown in the poster, oh boy. I’m also putting up a couple other designs I made that we aren’t using, as well as some shots I took of Lana, all after the cut…

Design teasers

I am in the middle of a few projects and have been itching to make a blog post, so here are a few teasers of the design projects I have been working on…

An Explosion of World Dance and Music 2009 takes place on March 14, and tickets go on sale February 1…

This is a detail off of my own Bhangra costume. I am so happy with our costumes this year! I love the colors and the details.

Also working on a website for my new favorite restaurant in town… it should be done soon!
