Mother-Daughter Trip to New York City [Travel Photography]

New York photography trip

This winter I was given an amazing opportunity to travel to New York with Renae Peterson from Beautiful Inside Academy and Susanne Richard from The Travel Agent Next Door for the mother-daughter bonding trip they had organized.

We set out with 7 mother/daughter pairs, one grandmother, and 5 solo travellers. I loved photographing this super fun trip!

With an early flight set to leave before sunrise, we stayed overnight in Calgary before the trip. This gave everyone a chance to meet each other at dinner and prepare for arriving in New York.

We stayed at the iconic Roosevelt Hotel, which was beautifully decorated for Christmas.

Upon arriving, we wasted no time exploring the city! Our first stop was a tour of Grand Central Station, followed by a much needed dinner.

On our first full day, everyone went on a walking tour to Brooklyn Bridge, Wall Street, Staten Island Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty, and the 9/11 Memorial. I was able to stop our group whenever I saw an amazing photo backdrop!

Eager for more to see, most of the travellers joined back up for a night walking tour to see all of the Christmas decorations. We saw such landmarks as the Macy’s store with its Christmas display windows, the outdoor skating rink at Bryant Park, and the Rockefeller Christmas tree.

We had one more big group activity the next morning to go to Top of the Rock and explore Rockefeller Center in daylight, then everyone dispersed to have their own exploring and bonding adventures.

My favourite part of the trip was being able to offer mini-sessions to all of our travellers. I chose my absolute favourite place from when Cam and I visited: Central Park! Every inch of this park is beautiful so it was easy to plan a 10 minute loop that passed a pond, a bridge, a tunnel, and a view of the cityscape. Despite being a few days into December, it both looked and felt like a gorgeous late autumn day.

I was also able to do a quick branding session with Renae the next morning in our hotel lobby.

We finished off the last two nights of the trip with showings of Wicked and The Rockettes. Everyone who wasn’t ready for bed wandered around to see more of Times Square and the other Christmas sights.
