Oldman Watershed Council Farm to Table Tour

Last month I had the pleasure of being involved with the farm to table tour hosted by Lethbridge non-profit The Oldman Watershed Council. The free tour included lunch from The Penny Coffeehouse, a tour of a farm near Coaldale, and a photography lesson from myself. Even though it was cold, we all had a lot of fun!

The photo lesson centred around taking control of the settings on your DSLR or mirrorless camera and we started while on the drive to the farm (courtesy of a party bus from California Dream Limo). Once at the farm, the landowners gave us a detailed tour and explained the work that goes into the farm. We got to meet all the friendly animals who live there, the most friendly being an extroverted goat and a small orange kitten who joined us on the entire tour.

Thank you to everyone who came and braved the rain!

Superstore Walk-In Clinic Grand Opening Event

Superstore Walk-In Clinic grand opening event

Lethbridge finally has a new much needed medical facility. The grand opening event and ribbon cutting for the Superstore Walk-In Clinic took place in June. A number of medical professionals attended, including local ones and those who travelled in, as well as significant individuals involved in the opening of the clinic. Alberta minister of health Jason Copping and head of pharmacy at Loblaw and president of Shoppers Drug Mart Jeff Leger spoke at the event.

The clinic is a pharmacist run walk-in clinic, the first of its kind offered in Alberta. Clinic manager and pharmacist Justin Jensen welcomed guests at the event and his excitement was (excuse the pun) contagious! Christine Hughes, interim dean at the U of A, was also in attendance as the university will be collaborating with the clinic and sending students there with the help of a grant they are receiving.

I took photos of the clinic space before guests arrived, candids of the crowd during mingling time, and then the official speeches and ribbon cutting that were broadcast on local media.

University of Lethbridge Nursing Faculty Pinning Ceremony

Congratulations to the nursing grads of 2021/22! The University of Lethbridge was finally able to have in-person convocation ceremonies again and the nursing class was able to have their pinning ceremony. The event was held in the ballroom at the university with graduates, faculty members, and their family in attendance.

This year’s graduates had unique challenges during their education. Their time at school saw a pandemic, online classes, and a faculty strike. Making it this far was even more of an accomplishment than any of them had anticipated.

Thank you for having me photograph your University of Lethbridge Nursing Faculty pinning ceremony!

2022 Lethbridge MS Walk

2022 Lethbridge MS Walk at Henderson Lake

The Lethbridge MS Walk, held by the Lethbridge MS Society, was finally back after a two year hiatus due to COVID. This was my sixth year photographing the walk and it was great to see so many familiar faces after such a long break in the event. While they planned for a smaller crowd, the turnout was still fantastic! It’s almost like the weather knew it was a big deal for the walk to be back… all of the rain forecast for that day held off, making this one of the nicest days the walk has seen.

There was so much energy at the walk this year. People were so happy to see each other! The lead in to the event was filled with so many reunion hugs, and the warm-up before walking had way more excited participation than usual.

Like the last few years, the walk was held at Henderson Lake and followed the usual route. I wasn’t able to get transported around in a golf cart this year, so I doubled back on the route once everyone started and caught people as they returned, with beautiful views of the lake beside them.

Art’s Alive Gallery Show at the SAAG

45th Annual Art's Alive and Well in the Schools at SAAG

This was a huge year for our young local artists… the Art’s Alive gallery show got to be in person for the first time since COVID!

This was the 45th Annual Art’s Alive and Well in the Schools presented by the Southern Alberta Art Gallery. The show featured work from Lethbridge area K-12 students and included an awards presentation for some of the outstanding young artists. It was an amazing opportunity for students to see their work professionally on display in an art gallery, rather than only online or at local construction sites.

As a graduate of the University of Lethbridge’s fine arts faculty, I love seeing art and young artists supported and encouraged like this in our community. It makes the city so much more vibrant!

Congratulations to all of the students who had their work displayed!

YWCA Women of Distinction Awards 2022

YWCA Women of Distinction Awards 2022

Here are the amazing recipients of this year’s Women of Distinction Awards from YWCA Lethbridge & District! This was a very special year for me to get to photograph as I am friends with two of these women, Cam had an amazing experience working with one of the others, and we are all so interconnected through our community ties. There was only one degree or less of separation between any two people in the room! These women are all so deserving of the award for making Lethbridge a better place.

After cocktail hour and mingling at the Sandman Signature Hotel, all of the women were introduced by the people who nominated them and received their award before giving speeches.
