The Girls in the Masks [Rachel and Pandy]

girls wearing masks in Lethbridge barn

I’m so glad for this impromptu photoshoot with models Rachel Kieper and Pandy Duplessis at the October photographer/model collaboration. I wanted to photograph each girl, and their outfits and masks came together perfectly as I started picking out their wardrobe. They did an amazing job being both eerie and beautiful in the old abandoned barn location.

Zombie Girl Portraits Lethbridge [Hope]

zombie girl portraits Lethbridge

Hope was adorable for her portrait session… but I think something may have been wrong with her? Maybe she wasn’t feeling well that day? ;)

I worked with Hope as part of a Halloween themed photographer/model collaboration and wanted to take some gory but lovely zombie girl portraits of her. Of course I had to go as traditional and cutesy as possible for her portrait poses to juxtapose all the blood and gore she had going on! Hope did a fantastic job on her own makeup and managed to keep her contacts in despite the crazy wind making them shift :)

sugar skull, Dia de los Muertos photos in Lethbridge

As a personal project before Halloween, I recruited model Tuezday Kabel & makeup artist Jill Renner for a Día de los Muertos themed photoshoot with sugar skull face painting. These ladies rocked it! We coordinated the skull paint with the autumn colors outside and found the most colorful splashes we could in Indian Battle Park.

Terrifying Tami, the Scary Clown [Personal Project]

Terrifying Tami, scary clown photos

It’s my favorite time of year, Halloween season! Not much is scarier than a creepy clown (at least in my opinion), so I felt some scary clown photos were in order this year!

When I saw Tami do a cartwheel at a previous modeling collaboration, I knew we had to do something creepy and weird, and the clown thing just fell into place. With Katt Panic’s magic touch, Tami transformed into a clown much scarier than I could have imagined. (I loved Tami’s reaction when we finally showed her the finished face!) I love that Tami has such colorful hair as it was the perfect touch to complete the look.

Jenni on Film [Personal Project]

Lethbridge film photography portrait session

Finally, a new film photography session! I started trying to use up my film two years ago with Beth, and somehow the time got away from me! This means the film was expired by an extra two years and thanks to my camera eating the first roll of film, I ended up switching to 800 ISO. Oh, the grain! I’ve toned it down a bit after scanning but the age of the film is starting to show. Maybe by the next session I do like this we’ll start seeing some awesome color distortion :)

My model this time was Jenni. I’ve danced with her for a few years now and thought her tribal bellydance outfit and steampunk costume would be awesome to capture with film. We timed things perfectly to get the tail end of the canola fields being in season in Lethbridge and I’m so happy with how the film captured the colors. Jenni did a great job and I so appreciate her patience when the first roll of film died on us.

Tron Legacy Inspired Photos, girl with blue lights

I knew I’d be working with Hope for her modeling portfolio, but it wasn’t until I saw her awesome black vinyl bodysuit that I knew these were going to be some Tron Legacy inspired photos!

I’ve been wanting to do this photo shoot for a long time and had been flip flopping between being the photographer or being the model. The only problem was that I LOVE doing light painting, something a Tron photo shoot would definitely need, so I didn’t really want to give that up to someone else! (You know, the hour of patience it takes to do it through trial and error!) When Hope came into the picture with the most perfect wardrobe for it and perfect hair to pull off Gem’s style, my decision was made.

Lorelei Hoffarth
and I teamed up for these photos and the funny thing was that we both independently decided we wanted to do light painting with Hope, but it wasn’t until we discussed the idea further we realized we were on the same page! It was so fun seeing the differences in our photos starting with the same model, wardrobe, hair, makeup, and even basic lighting techniques… We ended up with SUCH different images, and even our light painting techniques were vastly different.

Our lovely and talented model was Hope Vande Beek, who did a great job holding reeeeeaaaally long poses while we ran around her with all sorts of crazy flashlights and blinded her with flashes in a nearly pitch black room. Makeup was provided by Cayley Blande at Colors Salon and hair was styled by Jenn Burton, who both did a wonderful job. Last but not least, thank you so much to Lorelei for opening up your studio for this fun concept shoot!
