best Lethbridge portrait photos of 2020

Weddings and events may have been postponed in 2020 due to COVID, but once restrictions eased up in the summer, everyone was grateful to spend time outdoors with their families! I was so thankful we have such beautiful, wide open outdoor spaces around Lethbridge so I could keep photographing all of these awesome families. I ended up hoarse on many occasions from yelling through my mask, but it was always worth it.

Two of the biggest trends I noticed this year were all of the babies who arrived (and these aren’t even the quarantine babies yet!) and all of the larger families who made an effort to celebrate important anniversaries and birthdays. I adapted quickly by bringing most of the newborns outdoors on warm days and talking their parents through poses. Everyone did so well!

Some highlights from 2020 include not one but TWO marriage proposals, a cat birthday, and a few more secret projects to come that I can’t share yet, including album art for local musicians and a children’s book. Each season was so amazing this year, from the long blossom season we had to the vibrant colours in the fall. Even the early snow was warm enough for outdoor photos!

Santa Paws Pet Photos at the Bone & Biscuit Lethbridge West 2020

Lethbridge Christmas pet photos with Santa

Our Santa Paws photos looked a little different this year with Coronavirus, but we found new ways to make it work! Santa came to visit us at the Bone & Biscuit location in Crossings in west Lethbridge wearing a very festive mask. We safely spaced out all of our pet families with appointment times, and loved it so much that we’ll do it again! Our more anxious dogs got to have more time to sniff Santa without a bunch of other dogs waiting and watching.

This year all money raised was in support of Windy City Canine Rescue. We were visited by 60 dogs, 4 cats, and broke our average of one dog peeing on the floor with more than 3 accidents! Luckily, Santa did not get peed on this year, and thanks to his mask, you couldn’t tell if a dog had tugged on his beard a little too hard. (However, Santa WAS knocked out of his chair at least twice by excited pooches.)

We saw the return of quite a few favourites from last year (including the small crying boy who, sure enough, still cried at the sight of Santa), and hope to see everyone again next Christmas!

Lethbridge Research Centre Family Photos [Dan & Sheila]

Lethbridge Research Centre family photos

Dan and Sheila were gifted a portrait session for Christmas and waited until we had gorgeous weather and their granddaughters were visiting. Wanting something a little off the beaten path for the city, we decided on Lethbridge Research Centre family photos. The centre’s Fairfield Gardens are one of my favourite and most under-utilized locations here so I was thrilled when Dan was the one to suggest it!

The family made their session so much fun by constantly goofing around together, teasing each other behind the camera, and not being afraid to roll around with Aspen the dog on the ground. Aspen was quite the show stealer with his energetic antics and the team work from the family that it took to have him hold still for only a few photos at a time.

Unfortunately Aspen unexpectedly fell ill not long after this photo session so this post is in his memory. I’m so thankful we were able to get these amazing moments of him with his family.

Lethbridge Cat Session [Franklin and Audrey’s Birthday]

Lethbridge pet photography

To celebrate the shared first birthdays of kitties Audrey and Franklin, their human mom treated them to a Lethbridge cat session. Each cat got a special birthday outfit. Franklin looked dashing in his sparkly bowtie, while Audrey turned heads with her purple tutu.

The kitties were very excited to have me visit their birthday party, though Audrey quickly decided the camera was super scary (I was totally fine, it just wasn’t allowed to cover my face!). We had to use some trickery to get photos of her, while Franklin was much simpler to please. For him, a well placed toy led him anywhere we wanted!

Lethbridge Great Dane photos

As his days with his family draw shorter, Carlos was honoured with a special pet session. This beautiful Lethbridge Great Dane has set out to prove his vet wrong and has already made it years past what he was diagnosed! Not taking any chances, his extended family treated his human mom and dad to the gift of pet photos while he’s still full of vitality.

Children and Pet Photography in Lethbridge [Jacey and Her Dogs]

children and pet photography in Lethbridge

Jacey’s early Christmas gift from her parents was a pet session with her dogs, Stella and Gia. Stella, the tan coloured dog, happens to be Gia’s mother. Despite the age difference, Gia was the one on her best behaviour while Stella had the excitement of a puppy exploring Aperture Part in west Lethbridge.

We started out with more classic posed portraits while we still had the dogs’ attention. Once our safe photos were finished, it was time for action shots! Each dog has her own set of special tricks (Stella’s “gopher” pose and Gia’s dancing were the cutest from each). Jacey’s parents described her as “the dog whisperer” and she was able to get the dogs to do everything we needed for photos!

At the end of the session, both dogs got to let loose with rolling in the leaves and chasing sticks. They did so great considering how crazy the wind was that day. The only signs of it were in their wind-swept ears!
