Dixie & Trevor, Pincher Creek wedding photography

Dixie and Trevor had to practice the ultimate in patience for their Pincher Creek wedding. After postponing their initial date due to COVID, Dixie spent weeks trying to find the right date that worked with all her vendors, and then postponing one more time when restrictions didn’t look in their favour. Once she finally had everything ready to go, she learned there was a rodeo taking place the same day where their ceremony was supposed to be held! Luckily the couple have a loving community that rallies around them. Friends and family helped take over to relieve Dixie’s stress and their wedding came together beautifully.

They were still able to have the outdoor ceremony they planned for in the yard of Creekside Community Church, married by someone dear to Dixie’s family. The rodeo hadn’t encroached too much on their original location so we were still able to do their family photos as planned behind the Pincher Creek Community Hall. Everyone out enjoying the creek that day was so accommodating for us for photos!

Their reception that night continued the feel of the rest of the day: full of laughter, their friends and family having an amazing time, and the couple totally surrounded by love. We took so many photos that day because Dixie and Trevor rarely quit laughing!

Congratulations, Dixie and Trevor!

St. Augustine Catholic Church Wedding in Taber [Kaylyn & Clint]

Kaylyn & Clint, St. Augustine Catholic Church Wedding in Taber

Kaylyn and Clint had to account for many changes to their St. Augustine Catholic Church wedding throughout the pandemic. After the initial postponement, they decided to go ahead even if it meant their wedding would be smaller than anticipated. They also had the added difficulty of the groom coming from the United States!

With their day getting shuffled around, they decided to do some more relaxed but posed photos at St. Augustine Catholic Church rather than photos of the ceremony. It was fantastic having full run of the church and being able to work around the beautiful light there. We even staged a few key elements of the ceremony.

We spent the rest of the morning at the Taber MD Park for portraits. The perk of doing all the photos before their ceremony meant we avoided all the afternoon heat!

Having such an intimate day meant Kaylyn and Clint got to spend so much quality time together, a luxury a lot of couples don’t get with how hectic wedding days can be. We loved spending the morning with them.

Congratulations, Kaylyn and Clint!

Window Mountain Lake Adventure Elopement [Lexi & Aaron]

Lexi & Aaron, Window Mountain Lake adventure elopement

When Lexi and Aaron asked me to join them on their Window Mountain Lake adventure elopement, I jumped at the chance! They knew the Crowsnest Pass lake was where they needed to get married from the very first time they hiked to it.

They made use of the new temporary marriage commissioner license we have in the province for Lexi’s sister to perform the wedding, while Aaron’s sister and myself were their witnesses.

In the morning, we met up to begin the very bumpy ride up to the lake to save on hiking the extra distance.

Lexi & Aaron, Window Mountain Lake adventure elopement

After a beautiful hike to the lake, everyone (except for me) changed into their wedding clothes to have the ceremony in a special spot the couple had chosen on the lake. Everyone cried at least once during the ceremony. It was short but very emotional! As Lexi and Aaron shared their first kiss, we heard cheering and applause from across the lake. I guess their wedding wasn’t as private as we thought!

Lexi and Aaron did an incredible job somehow hiking back to the truck in their formal wear as we stopped for photos along the way. However, wearing hiking boots the whole day definitely helped with that!

Congratulations, Lexi and Aaron! And thank you for taking me on such a fun adventure :)

Purple Springs Country Wedding Photos [Tori & Dustin]

Tori & Dustin, Purple Springs country wedding

Tori and Dustin were our first wedding rescheduled from 2020 so it felt so good for this to finally happen! They even had special signs made celebrating the fact that they waited so long that extra partying was required. Their day started with a Purple Springs country wedding ceremony on a family farm. The property had a beautiful long lawn lined with trees that was a perfect spot.

All the anticipation of the past year was finally let go. Their ceremony was full of so much laughter from everyone involved… and a few blunders at the ceremony definitely helped contribute to that ;)

After their ceremony, we drove out to the Grand Forks where they had gotten access to a beautiful private property along the river. The space had so much character with a giant tree house, old wheels, and lots of greenery.

Congratulations, Tori and Dustin!

Prince of Wales Spring Wedding in Waterton [Kari & Terry]

Kari & Terry, Prince of Wales spring wedding

And we’re back! It felt amazing to be back at weddings now that the restrictions are starting to lift. Kari and Terry were so sweet and welcoming, so their wedding was such a fantastic start to the season. They started planning their Prince of Wales spring wedding early so we lots of time to look forward to it.

Normally we spend the day zipping around Waterton, but Kari and Terry planned to spend their whole day at the hotel. After getting ready in the beautifully renovated rooms, they had their ceremony in the hotel’s lobby with the huge floor to ceiling windows overlooking the mountains.

We had just the right amount of breaks in the rain to get Kari and Terry outside for their family and couple’s portraits, and the rainy weather meant for once there wasn’t a hint of wind!

Kari and Terry kept their guest list small with the people who are the most important to them. Between these valued relationships and the relief of finding out everyone could come, there was a lot of crying! Kari’s daughter had to keep reminding her not to cry off her makeup and during the ceremony at least half the guests had tissues ready.

p.s. I think it’s so cute they have rhyming names, but quickly found out a mask muffles who I am actually speaking to when posing! We had to fall back on “K & T” for directions ;)

Congratulations, Kari & Terry!

Best Wedding Photos of 2020 – From Photography by Tanya Plonka

best Lethbridge wedding photos of 2020

What a year 2020 was! By the time March rolled around, we weren’t sure if we were still going to be able to call ourselves “wedding photographers” this year, or if COVID was going to cancel weddings and events completely. Quite a few of our couples decided to postpone their weddings until 2021, but the rest decided to shake up their plans and go for it!

We saw a little less travelling this year, but still managed to visit Waterton many times and went as far as the Pioneers Cabin in Edmonton. Many of the weddings were made more personal by cancelling venue reservations and moving the festivities to family’s and friend’s farms and ranches, where we found some stunning views of the Alberta landscape.

With 2020 being such an oddball, it was totally fitting that it was also a leap year! We started out the year with James and Kaylene’s leap year / 1920s themed wedding before we had any idea of what was to come.
