Lethbridge Backyard Wedding Ceremony [Cindy & Darrin]

August 19th, 2021

Cindy & Darrin, Lethbridge backyard wedding ceremony

Cindy and Darrin had an intimate Lethbridge backyard wedding ceremony at their home. They invited only their children and grandchildren to keep it extra special, and although their families are already essentially merged, this was the day to make it official!

I was thrilled when Cindy asked for advice on when to do everything to make it look as amazing as possible. We were able to get their portraits done just before dinner so their ceremony would be close to golden hour. With the help of the smokey skies, we ended up having the golden hour look for nearly the entire time we were with them!

We started out with photos in Sunridge at the waterfall and then finished in their beautiful large yard just as their guests started to arrive. They did an amazing job transforming their yard into a dreamy wedding venue covered in artificial flower arrangements and tents to divide the ceremony and reception spaces. Everything about the wedding was DIY and so well done. (p.s. I’m always so grateful when couples choose us to be the big splurge on weddings like this!)

The highlight of their celebration was definitely their relationships with their families. We fortunately had extra time to capture tons of candids of everyone laughing together and the little kids having a blast at their grandparents’ party.

Congratulations, Cindy and Darrin!

Kimberley Alpine Resort Wedding Photography [Stephanie & Nathan]

Stephanie & Nathan, Kimberley Alpine Resort wedding photography

Stephanie and Nathan had to plan around a lot of changes for their Kimberley Alpine Resort wedding. The COVID restrictions were made even more difficult with it being a cross-province destination wedding, and in the end their guests were notified of the final date without much time to plan. Stephanie and Nathan were elated that despite the tight timeline, nearly all of their invites were still able to show up!

They started the day getting ready at the Polaris Lodge and then had a first look before the ceremony. They decided they would be more comfortable privately reading their personal vows to each other rather than in front of all their guests, so chose their first look as an intimate time to do this.

Everyone rode the chairlift to get to their mountaintop ceremony, so there was a bit of sight seeing involved! Between the smoke and incoming rain, at times it looked like Stephanie and Nathan were getting married in the clouds. The cloud cover was just light enough that we still had views of the mountains from their ceremony, and even a little blue sky popped out.

Their guests finished off the evening with a fun reception at the Stemwinder Bar & Grill, with the dance being held outside to help accommodate social distancing.

Both Cam and I knew Stephanie and her family before we even met so this was a very special wedding for us to be a part of. We had even photographed her bridesmaid’s wedding last year! The whole day was like being with family and we loved spending it with them.

Congratulations, Stephanie and Nathan!

Waterton Day After Wedding Portraits [Anita & Kai]

August 10th, 2021

Waterton day after wedding portraits

To cut back on as much wedding stress as possible, Anita and Kai waited until their honeymoon to have Waterton day after wedding portraits. What a great idea! This gave them the opportunity to focus on their family and guests on their wedding day and then have a laid back photo session in the national park.

Anita and Kai had hoped for locations that wouldn’t be full of tourists, so we visited the beach below the Prince of Wales and the hill up in the industrial area of the town. (In one direction it is definitely not scenic, but face the lakes and you get a sweeping view of the mountains and the Prince of Wales Hotel!) The Waterton wild flowers were out, which added gorgeous colours to the grass on top of the hill and a ton of butterflies fluttering through the photos.

It was so great to work with them again (I had recently photographed Anita’s family) and loved having our quick little Waterton adventure!

Picture Butte Extended Family Photos [Joanne & Frank]

Picture Butte extended family photos

Frank and Joanne got their three children and their families together for Picture Butte extended family photos at their farm house. Each set of little kids was so excited to spend a morning playing with their cousins. When it wasn’t their turn for photos, they could be found running around with each other.

The family farm was such a meaningful location to do their photos. In addition to growing up there, most of the family lives very close by so they have a lot of special memories at the farm. Frank and Joanne are so proud of the life they have built for their family and it really showed in their interactions with their grandchildren.

Lethbridge Promotional Band Photos [Jamani Duo]

August 3rd, 2021

Lethbridge promotional band photos of Jamani Duo

Last fall, Jamani Duo began working on the creatives for their new album. They loaded up their van with the instruments that were used on the tracks and we adventured throughout the city with all their instruments in tow. Normally when I do Lethbridge promotional band photos there may be a guitar involved, not a whole set up that takes 20 minutes to put together, so this was a ton of fun!

When they listed off the numerous instruments they had recorded with, the top down photo with their instruments surrounding them was the first image that came to my mind, and I was so excited to see it was the photo that made the album cover!

Pincher Creek Wedding Photography [Dixie & Trevor]

Dixie & Trevor, Pincher Creek wedding photography

Dixie and Trevor had to practice the ultimate in patience for their Pincher Creek wedding. After postponing their initial date due to COVID, Dixie spent weeks trying to find the right date that worked with all her vendors, and then postponing one more time when restrictions didn’t look in their favour. Once she finally had everything ready to go, she learned there was a rodeo taking place the same day where their ceremony was supposed to be held! Luckily the couple have a loving community that rallies around them. Friends and family helped take over to relieve Dixie’s stress and their wedding came together beautifully.

They were still able to have the outdoor ceremony they planned for in the yard of Creekside Community Church, married by someone dear to Dixie’s family. The rodeo hadn’t encroached too much on their original location so we were still able to do their family photos as planned behind the Pincher Creek Community Hall. Everyone out enjoying the creek that day was so accommodating for us for photos!

Their reception that night continued the feel of the rest of the day: full of laughter, their friends and family having an amazing time, and the couple totally surrounded by love. We took so many photos that day because Dixie and Trevor rarely quit laughing!

Congratulations, Dixie and Trevor!
