De Winton Community Hall Wedding [Roxy & Josh]

Roxy and Josh, De Winton Community Hall Wedding

Josh and Roxy are high school sweethearts who understand the value of patience. Once they finished university, moved apart and then back together again, and got a house, they decided it was time to take the next step and get married! They planned a laid back De Winton Community Hall wedding with beer coolers and lawn games to keep their guests entertained.

After their outdoor ceremony and some hiding indoors from a thunder shower, we explored the town of De Winton for some major rustic feeling. From grain elevators to canola fields, Roxy and Josh had a country wedding with the Calgary skyline visible in the background. With a handful of siblings in the wedding party to keep teasing them and some long time friends to keep them laughing, Roxy and Josh had the party vibe of the day follow them everywhere they went.

Roxy first came into my life when I photographed her best friend’s wedding six years ago. Their group of friends has been tightly knit since college so there were a lot of familiar faces from the last wedding, with one notable exception! The absence of the maid of honour on Roxy’s wedding day was bittersweet. While she missed her bestie’s wedding day, it was because she went into labour the night before! The wedding day was full of gossip among the guests… “Did the baby arrive yet?” Luckily Roxy came prepared with two best friends assigned to that role and her man of honour did a fantastic job filling both roles (including standing in the rain holding an umbrella over the bride).

Congratulations, Roxy and Josh!

Calgary Lougheed House Wedding Album [Edina & Eric]

Edina & Eric, Calgary Lougheed House Wedding Album

It’s never too late to get an album! Edina had planned on creating her own, but a few years (and kids) later, she passed the torch back to me to help her out. I had to go back in the archives a bit to create Edina and Eric’s Calgary Lougheed House wedding album and loved revisiting this beautiful wedding. This is still one of my favorite winter weddings to date!

Edina and Eric chose some of the more dramatic black and white images that were taken inside the historic Lougheed House. These made for gorgeous large featured images.

This is an example of the Modern+ Wedding Album with a charcoal leather spine.

Calgary Chinatown Spring Wedding [Sam & Brittany]

Brittany and Sam, Calgary Chinatown Spring Wedding

I really looked forward to seeing how Brittany and Sam would combine their cultural backgrounds for their Calgary Chinatown spring wedding. The beautiful event did not disappoint! They held their ceremony at the Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre downtown under the gorgeous domed ceiling.

The area along the river had no shortage of beautiful spots so we didn’t have to go very far for photos as we made our way to their reception at the Regency Palace Restaurant. They could not have asked for a nicer day, especially with all the blossoms still being out.

Brittany and Sam had such a romantic and timeless look to their wedding day style. Sam rocked his James Bond style tux and Brittany was stunning in her floral detail wedding gown (the first of three dresses she wore that day!). Their personalities are so in sync with each other and I loved watching how romantic they are together.

Congratulations, Brittany and Sam!

Elegant Calgary Catholic Wedding [Evan & Emily]

Evan & Emily, elegant Calgary Catholic wedding photos

It’s impossible to talk about Evan and Emily’s wedding without first addressing all the crazy little things that went wrong that day. Between rain, incorrect church readings, and car accidents (to only name a few), each new thing that came up had us shaking our heads and feeling piling sympathy for this sweet couple. However, what mattered in the end was that the overall love and happiness of the day overpowered the trivial things and they still had such a beautiful, elegant Calgary Catholic wedding.

Every time Emily looked at Evan, you could see her stress melt away as she shot him her beaming smile. I quickly learned that asking them to look serious in any photos was a challenge ;) They are so supportive of each other and true equals in their relationship.

We already knew the kindness and warmth of Evan’s family from when we photographed his sister’s wedding several years ago, but Emily’s family easily matched that hospitality! (Though the long running joke through the reception is that Evan’s family wins in the quantity of happy tears they cry.)

Congratulations, Evan and Emily!

Stanley Park Family Photos [Linda]

Stanley Park family photos

I met Linda waaaaay back in university and when we recently reconnected, we discussed how fun it would be to get together to update her family photos. Since her mom lives in Calgary, the timing worked out perfectly when I was passing through to make a stop in Stanley Park for their family session with her son Teagan, her mom, and Teagan’s dad.

Teagan was promised only a few serious photos and then he was able to let loose! I was pleased to find the whole family is goofy like this and made the BEST silly faces for photos (I think everyone learned from Grandma, the master of silly faces!).

Cyndy & Austin, Azuridge Estate wedding photography, Calgary wedding photos

Last weekend Cam and I headed to the foothills for Austin and Cyndy’s wedding at Azuridge Estate Hotel in Priddis, just west of Calgary. This was our first time doing Azuridge Estate wedding photography and we were blown away by what an amazing location they chose for their special day. Surrounded by gorgeous views of the mountains, tall trees, floor to ceiling windows, and even a dinosaur, Azuridge was a beautiful venue.

Austin and Cyndy have been together for seven years and their wedding felt like a celebration of their relationship and families. Many family members traveled from overseas to join them, filling the event with so much happiness and excitement. It is such an honor to have photographed them so early in their relationship and again for such an important day!

The two of them are still so much in love and look at each other just like any other newlyweds would :)

Congratulations, Austin and Cyndy!
