Terrifying Tami, the Scary Clown [Personal Project]

Terrifying Tami, scary clown photos

It’s my favorite time of year, Halloween season! Not much is scarier than a creepy clown (at least in my opinion), so I felt some scary clown photos were in order this year!

When I saw Tami do a cartwheel at a previous modeling collaboration, I knew we had to do something creepy and weird, and the clown thing just fell into place. With Katt Panic’s magic touch, Tami transformed into a clown much scarier than I could have imagined. (I loved Tami’s reaction when we finally showed her the finished face!) I love that Tami has such colorful hair as it was the perfect touch to complete the look.

Halloween | Personal Project

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012

October is one of my favorite months… warm days with chilly hot chocolate nights, crunchy colorful leaves and, of course, Halloween, which means lots of horror movies and listening to Dead Man’s Bones! It’s been far too long since I’ve worked on a self-portrait project and I’ve been inspired by all the amazing levitation photos out there, plus I wanted to do my own haunted series. I set out on one of the ridiculously windy afternoons we’ve had and luckily was only interrupted by a few pedestrians, though I almost blew away a few times! I’ve taken on a few new genres of dance this year so that was a big inspiration on a few of the images. Psh, who needs stools and ladders for levitation photo composites when you can do it with your body alone? ;) (more…)

Mary is Haunted [Personal Project]

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

The concept for this photo shoot has been rotting (har har) away in my brain since January. During the winter I couldn’t stop listening to Dead Man’s Bones – that’s Ryan Gosling’s band, by the way – and was in love with the eerie, ethereal visions and ideas that popped into my head when I was listening to it. Finally this took shape, and I knew Marie and a white dress would be perfect, but I had to patiently wait for the snow to melt and the ground to warm up so that having her out there in bare feet wouldn’t be too torturous. Mary was as amazing as last time, and I gave her an even harder workout than when I had made her jump across dirt roads repeatedly.

Normally for personal work I do zombies, so I guess I just can’t step outside of the supernatural ;)

p.s. Only one photo is a composite. Can you guess which one? (more…)

Shooting with Suderman: Doug & Kristine’s Halloween Wedding

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

This Halloween, Andrew Suderman was gracious enough to let me second-shoot for him for this really unique wedding! Doug and Kristine combined the chilly autumn weather with some excellent Halloween elements, which was right up my alley :)

I had Andrew assist me earlier this year, so it was cool to switch the roles. He’s a super awesome up and coming photographer in town, so make sure you check out his Flickr page!

Doug and Kris started with a “regular” wedding (well, regular but with Halloween decorations) in the German Canadian Club, and then we went outside for family photos. Unfortunately the wind was a chilly 80km/hr that day, so we weren’t able to stay outside for very long! Andrew set up his lights inside, so I wandered around capturing all the neat little details they had arranged in the hall.

After the lunch reception (they had an early wedding), we drove out to Stirling to go to the renown Haunted House! We were instructed that we could take photos inside, as long as they looked “creepy.” I am so glad Andrew had a flashlight in his gear bag so we could focus our cameras on them! And I have to admit, I was a very bad second shooter and totally hijacked that portion of the shoot! ;)

Their second, evening reception saw all the guests return in Halloween costumes. So much fun! (more…)
