Waterton Surprise Proposal Session & Family Photos [Meagan & Shieghla]

Waterton surprise proposal session

When Meagan wanted to ask her partner Shieghla to marry her, she decided it was going to be a group effort. After first asking Shieghla’s children for permission, she arranged a gift certificate with me. Their Waterton surprise proposal session was disguised as family photos for an anniversary gift. Meaghan then had oversized custom Scrabble tiles made by Nixynn Fine Wood Products – Scrabble is one of their favourite hobbies to do together – and came up with a plan for their family members to sneak the tiles into the session.

I met up with the family at Linnet Lake to start with regular portraits, and work through some of Meaghan’s nerves until she was ready to ask the question!

Finally it was time at the Prince of Wales! Meaghan and I had shared diagrams and code words before the proposal session. I asked the other family members to stand to the side while I took photos of the couple, giving them a chance to stealthily pull the Scrabble tiles out.

Shieghla was shocked and had never expected it! (Of course she said yes!) Her and Meagan were so lost in the moment, they didn’t even hear the onlooking tourists clapping for them!

Congratulations, Meagan and Shieghla!

Waterton Family Photo Session [Cheryl, Larry, and Their Boys]

Prince of Wales family photography

Vacationing more locally has surged in popularity (which is no surprise considering our circumstances!). Cheryl and Larry wanted to create special camping memories for their family, so they packed up their RV with their boys and headed south to Waterton. On one of their trips to the national park this summer, they made time one afternoon for a Waterton family photo session.

The family met me at the Prince of Wales on their bicycles. I’m sure all the tourists thought I was insane as I yelled about birds pooping on my head, but I’ll do whatever the kids find the funniest! The boys were also supposed to watch for the ghost behind me (they are currently into Scooby Doo in a big way, and if there’s going to be a ghost in Waterton, I’m sure it would live at the Prince of Wales).

Waterton Autumn Family Photos [Kalina, Jen & David]

Waterton autumn family photos

Kalina got to go for a weekend trip for Waterton autumn family photos with her mom and dad and despite the on-again, off-again rain had a great time. We were worried Kalina would get upset in the rain but instead started giggling uncontrollably when it started! It’s good she was able to enjoy herself while all the adults were soggy and cold ;) She loved checking out the fallen leaves and got the best snuggles from Jen and David to keep her toasty and warm.

Waterton was gorgeous for its last official weekend of the year and unusually warm despite the rain. What a perfect day for fall colours! The small crowds gave us time to visit both Cameron Falls and Linnett Lake that day.

Waterton Anniversary Portrait Session [Louis & Laurie]

Waterton anniversary portrait session

Louis is a true romantic. For his 50th wedding anniversary with Laurie he surprised her with a trip to Waterton, a stay at the historic Prince of Wales Hotel, a fun weekend filled with exploring the park, and a Waterton anniversary portrait session.

I met with them at the hotel where we decided against the overlook photos in the original plan… because my goodness, was it windy! Instead we found shelter lower down at Linnett Lake and within the townsite by the docks, and luckily didn’t run into any of the bears that have been frequenting the town. (Though we were told we missed a bear visit by 15 minutes!)

Don’t let the fact that they prefer to be serious in photos fool you… throughout the session, Louis and Laurie constantly made each other laugh and are obviously still so in love after all these years. I wish them another happy 50 years together :)

Waterton Bayshore Inn Autumn Wedding [Robert & Carla]

Robert and Carla, Waterton Bayshore Inn Autumn Wedding

Robert and Carla made sure family played a prominent part in their Waterton Bayshore Inn autumn wedding. Their wedding party was mostly made up of siblings, their small guest count gave them more time to visit with family members, and most importantly, their adorable girls were a highlight of the day and got to enjoy their own special dance with Rob in the evening. They made it obvious what their priorities are in their life together :)

They chose such a gorgeous day at the end of the season in Waterton to hold their wedding. Their orange and red colour scheme perfectly complemented the fall colours and the dwindling tourists meant we got to visit a mostly empty Red Rock Canyon!

Carla and Robert were a joy to work with. They are madly in love and busted out hilarious jokes every few minutes. Their wedding party members were so warm and generous too, so it really must run in the family.

Congratulations, Robert and Carla!

Waterton family photos

When Chelsea contacted me to do Waterton family photos, I was so excited! I’m normally only there for weddings when we have a tight schedule, but for family portraits we could take our time and explore as much as needed. Her and Brendon, along with their sweet children Alexis and Liam (some of the most well behaved kids I’ve ever met!), met with me one summer afternoon and enjoyed the beautiful day with me.

It was such a gorgeous day in Waterton… sunny but not too hot, and all the colors were so vibrant, especially in the wildflowers that were in bloom. We went on a few mini hikes exploring the park and the kids got to have a fun wagon ride to get there.
