Garry’s Birthday Party | Lethbridge Event Photography

Great Gatsby themed birthday party in Lethbridge

When Garry celebrated his 50th birthday, his friends and family threw him a wonderful themed birthday party: The Great Garry, all in Roaring 20s style! I was so impressed with the attention to detail that went into the party and that all the guests ran with the theme and dressed up. Everyone clearly had a lot of fun and I love how outgoing and joyful Garry and his wife Rita are together. Happy birthday, Garry! (more…)

Ashley and Mike, Waterton Mountain Getaway Wedding

We love Waterton and were so excited to go there again for Michael and Ashley’s Waterton mountain getaway wedding. Their event was held at the beautiful Bayshore Inn, with lots of help from Louise at Perfect Day Ventures.

We had so much fun spending the day with them; we were pretty much in non-stop laughter the whole time. They (and their bridal party members) are such warm, kind people and are a complete joy to be around. :)

I definitely appreciated their commitment to the photos. Halfway through our portraits the rain storm hit, but once it let up a little and we wrapped our gear in plastic they were totally fine with going back outside and getting a little damp! We only had to cut things short once lightning was striking around us (yikes!). Luckily the clouds parted in the evening and we gave them a little break from their reception for some gorgeous evening portraits.

Congratulations, Michael & Ashley! (more…)

The Days of the Phoenix | Personal Project

AFI photo project, The Days of the Phoenix, Lethbridge creative lighting portraits

It’s time to finally introduce a project I’ll be working on over the next year, a disjointed set of images tied together only by the music that inspired them.

Each photo shoot is inspired, in some way, by a single AFI music video. I will keep going until each video of theirs, even if I don’t like the original, is complete. These are the only rules.

This project has been fermenting in my brain for quite a while, and after a desire built up to focus on learning more creative lighting, I decided it was definitely time to start! I have been a huge fan of AFI for many years and find their music to be so emotional and creativity-inducing (I usually play them when I need to power through photo editing, sew bellydance costumes, or anything else that needs a lot of creative input in very little time). Many of their videos have really interesting visuals and impactful lighting that I couldn’t resist dissecting. I’m also doing it to cope with the seemingly endless hiatus they’ve been on!

This particular photo shoot was the second I photographed, but the first I wanted to post. “The Days of the Phoenix” was the very first song I ever heard from AFI and therefore seemed fitting for the introduction.

Cass | Lethbridge Alternative Boudoir

Alternative boudoir portraits of girl in red light, Lethbridge

Cass and I had discussed this red-themed, alternative pin-up inspired session for quite some time, so when she chopped off all her hair and started dying it crazy colors, we knew the time was right! I had wanted to experiment like crazy with lighting, and aside from a few composite shots where light painting didn’t quite work out consistently from one photo to the next, this was all achieved in camera using such basic things as fabric, a flashlight, a string of Christmas lights, and even a laundry basket… all accomplished in my living room! Cass worked her butt off holding these poses through our longer exposures and I think it was worth all the pain ;)

As with any of my boudoir/pinup, there’s no nudity but it’s still likely NSFW :) (more…)

Lethbridge World AIDS Day 2012

Lethbridge World AIDS Day 2012

This year I had the honor of photographing the World AIDS Day event held by the Lethbridge HIV Connection in Galt Gardens. People gathered together to form a human ribbon, illuminated only by candles (such a wonderful idea!). Despite it being a little chilly the turn out was great, and I got to crash the fashion show at the SAAG in my full winter attire, climb through a little trap door, and take the photo from the SAAG’s roof… not your typical Friday night! The wind made the candle-lit ribbon short lived, but it turned out great despite that :) (more…)

Jack & Erika | A Lethbridge Wedding

Wednesday, August 29th, 2012

When Erika told me that her and Jack were having a garden fairy tale themed wedding, I was so excited. Being such a Disney fan, it pulled on my heartstrings! Every detail they planned turned out beautifully and they had an absolutely perfect wedding. Everyone was so much fun to work with that they made the day just fly by. Erika and Jack were so in love and so great in front of the camera :)

Thanks to the crazy heat during the day, we got to spend some time in the evening taking outdoor photos, and I’m so glad they let me take them away in the dark for a bit :)
